PROJECTS OF PUNJAB LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT BOARD & ANIMAL HUSBANDRY DEPARTMENT, PUNJAB
1. NATIONAL DAIRY PLAN PHASE-I
The following sub projects are implemented by Punjab Livestock Development Board under National Dairy Plan Phase-I :
1. Strengthening of Semen Station Nabha;
2. Production of High Genetic Merit Murrah Buffalo Bulls through Progeny Testing;
3. Production of High Genetic Merit Nili Ravi Buffalo Bulls through Pedigree Selection;
4. Production of High Genetic Merit Sahiwal Bulls through Pedigree Selection.
2. NATIONAL PROJECT FOR BOVINE BREEDING
1. Rashtriya Gokul Mission and Gokul Gram
The State of Punjab is creating new Bull Mother Farm at village Rauni with State of Art infrastructure facilities having capacity of 300 animals. It is proposed that 200 quality Sahiwal cows will be sourced from various regions of Punjab especially districts of Punjab bordering Pakistan and from reputed Gaushalas which are conserving these animals.
In all 200 elite cows of high genetic value for breeding will be procured in a phased manner for strengthening the Bull Mother Farm. It is proposed to procure 70 cows of Sahiwal breed each during 2016-17 and 2017-18 and 60 cows during 2018-19.
Objectives
1. To locate superior germ-plasm in the farm and Breeding tracts through milk recording and registration of Animals.
2. To introduce systematic recording in the breeding tract.
3. To study the production records collected in the breeding tracts and organized cattle farms & lay down standard for selection.
4. To collect the Production and breeding data of all registered animals for general guidance and inter-farms Inter-breeder exchange of Animals.
5. To propagate and awaken consciousness amongst the breeders to improve their economics through Livestock improvement by Constant publicity and incentive.
6. Animal health surveillance by identifying and tracking specific animals.
What to be done :
National Mission on Bovine Productivity;
The scheme NMBP will be implemented with the following major objectives with special
Reference to farmers from socio-economically weaker sections and doubling their income:
(i) To enhance milk production and productivity of bovine population by increasing population of disease free high genetic merit female population and check on spread of diseases.
(ii) To improve quality of dairy animals, milk and milk products.
(iii) To increase trade of livestock and livestock products by meeting out sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) issues.
(iv) To create e-market portal for bovine germplasm for connecting breeders and farmers, especially from socio-economically weaker sections.
(v) To increase farmers income as a part of goal set by Hon’ble PM for doubling farmers’ income by 2022.

Name of Scheme(sharing pattern):- Special Central Assistance (AH) -Scheme for female buffalo calf rearing (GOI 100%)
Name of Department: Animal Husbandry, Punjab.
I.Objectives:-
The objective of the scheme is to improve the economic status of the BPL Scheduled Castes landless families by provinding them one young female buffalo/Cow calf ( upto 6 month of age) for rearing. When this calf will are fully developed ,the beneficiaries can sell it in the market or can keep the same for milk production .This would help them to generate additional family income to cross the poverty line .
II. Implementation Guidelines:- Under this scheme calves will be selected by the beneficiary with the assistance Senior Veterniary Officer/ Veterinary Officer of Animal Husbandry Department from the dairy farms around the area.
III.Allocation (Rs in Cr.). 2018-19 0.51 Cr.
IV. Beneficiaries/Achievements:- 45 Units were established during 2017-18 and 500 units would be established during 2018-19.

Name of Scheme(sharing pattern):- Setting up of Goat/Sheep rearing units. (GOI 100%)
The proposed envisage is to help rearing of goat kids by providing financial assistance for purchase of goat kids. The approximate cost will be of Rs.3333/- per goat kid at the age of 4-6 months. It is proposed to setup 500 such units of 3 goat kids each.
II. Implementation Guidelines:-
Under this scheme Goat kids will be selected by the beneficiary with the assistance Senior Veterniary Officer/ Veterinary Officer of Animal Husbandry Department from the dairy farms around the area.
III.Allocation (Rs in Cr.).2018-19 0.50 Cr.

Name of Scheme(sharing pattern):- Supply of Hand Driven Chaff Cutter(Toka machine) to landless/marginal Scheduled Castes families. (GOI 100%)
I.Objectives:- The objective of the scheme is to facilitate the living below the poverty line BPL Scheduled Castes families by providing them a hand driven chaff cutter so that they can feed their milch animals properly for better utilization of nutrients resulting in better health and production. the land less agricultural labourers and marginal s.c. farmers who keep with them milch animals and other livestock for their domestic need collect the green fodder from the fileds but have not fodder cutter of their own. They have to go to the land owners/large farmers for cutting their fodder.Under this Scheme each baneficiary will be given a good quality hand driven chaff cutter at a cost of Rs.8000/- so that these people can easily feed their livestock. 500 beneficiaries would be covered under this scheme.
II. Implementation Guidelines:- Under this scheme beneficiaries would be selected by the concerned senior veterinary officer/veterinary officer and agriculture development officer.
III.Allocation (Rs in Cr.).2018-19 0.40 Cr.
IV. Beneficiaries/Achievements:- 500 units would be established during 2018-19.
